Tom first encountered the Marianists while a student at University of Dayton and, after graduating in 1986, professed first vows in 1988. He served as an English teacher at Msgr. John R. Hackett Catholic Central High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan, for three years before earning his doc torate in English and American literature from Washington University in St. Louis in 1999. He then taught full-time at University of Dayton for 11 years, followed by seven years of service to the Marianists as Province Vocation Director. In 2017, Bro. Tom returned to University of Dayton’s English department, where he taught full time until his appointment to the Council. Bro. Tom has previously stated, “We seek to respond to the needs of our particular time and place.” Rooted in education, filled with faith, and with Mary as his model of discipleship, he will do just that. Brother Tom Wendorf, SM Brother Tom Wendorf, SM Outside of the Society of Mary, Bro. Bob has served the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Conference of Major Superiors of Men; the National Association of Treasurers of Religious Institutes and the Resource Center for Religious Institutes; and the Christian Brothers Religious Comprehensive Medical Trust. Although a second term on the Provincial Council is not something he thought he would be doing at this stage of his life, Bro. Bob accepts this change and acknowledges the changes to come — changes due to the aging and decreasing professed population. “I am looking forward to listening to our brothers to see how we should position ourselves to prepare for a much smaller province,” he said. “Some of the changes will not be easy, but with Mary as our guide and model, we will be able to accomplish this.” Marianist Father Michael Chiuri will serve as Councilor for the Provincial Council. Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, Fr. Mike earned a bachelor of commerce from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi in 1997; a master of business administration from California State University in San Bernadino, California in 2000; a baccalaureate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome, Italy, in 2020; and will complete his doctorate in business administration at DePaul University in Chicago, in 2027.
