Without hesitation, most people settle on one word: family. “That’s how it feels,” says Robert Brownfield, principal of the coed Catholic high school in Akron, Ohio. “We have many teachers who have taught here for 30 or 40 years,” he says, noting the strong, family-like bonds people make with the school com- munity. “They never want to leave.” Father Martin Solma, provincial of the Marianist Province of the United States, noticed the familial atmosphere almost immediately upon arriving on campus during his first visit. “I sensed that people really care for one another. It felt like our other schools,” says Father Marty, alluding to the 18 schools that have comprised the Marianist network of sponsored schools throughout the United States.
