Frank helped him make and deliver his famous fruitcake at Christmas for benefactors. Frank said Brother Bob was a loyal friend and befriended people in all walks of life. He is so missed. The Fangers are actively involved with theDiocese of San Joses nonprofit corporation,BASICS: Brothers and Sisters in Christ Service. They participate once a year in an immersionexperience where they do not just build houses inTijuana, Mexico, but live together with the people they are helping at their local parish. We recognize what they want for their families and lives is the same as what we want: faith, family, safety, education, a clean home, Kathy said. The morning starts with breakfast and prayer. The work crews rebuild homes, while education for the mothers and playtime for youth are offered. We join the local parish in Tijuana for Sunday Mass. Frank works on the building crew; Kathy helps with the women. On one of these immersion trips, the Fangers son met his future wife, Yamili, when they were rebuilding her familys home. Yamilis home was on quite a hill, Frank said. If it wasnt redone, with the rains coming, it would have slid down the hillside. We built three homes on her block the year Brian and Yamili met. Kathy sees the hand of God in that meeting Brian and Yamili meeting and getting married, that was God-orchestrated, she said. For 30 years, Frank also participated in immersion trips at Easter with the Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose. Though they both left religious life with theMarianists, the Fangers continue as spiritual individuals who carry out Gods will in their service to others. The Marianist Charism is in your lifes blood. Community is so important to us. I cant even imagine not being active through the Marianists, Kathy said. And Frank wholeheartedly agreed.
