We often get these questions: What do the Marianist believe? What is it about Mary that inspired the founding of the Family of Mary? What is the Family of Mary? Who was Father Chaminade? Why is he now called "Blessed?"
This 16-page book presents short excerpts that we hope offer some answers to these questions. Perhaps the words about Mary's example will inspire reflection about how God calls us all to say "yes" to developing goodness in the world. Father Chaminade was an instrument of reconstruction and reunification among people who had lost their faith through war and hardship almost 200 years ago. He formed groups of women and men of diverse backgrounds (highly unusual in his day) who overcame their differences through their unity of spirit and vision to become disciples and teachers of Christ's message.
Also included in this book are prayers that Father William Joseph Chaminade, the founder, saw as fundamental to establishing a prayerful life. Father Chaminade saw in the humanity of Mary and Joseph a pattern that can teach us about welcoming the Spirit of God in our own lives. ᅠ The Prayer to St. Joseph in this book, along with Mary-related prayers, shows Father Chaminade's devotion not only to Jesus' mother but also his to earthly father
