In this country of 1.2 billion people, more than a third (410 million) live below the poverty line, subsisting on $1.25 a day. It is to these poorest of the poor that the Marianists minister. Primarily through rural schools in remote and primitive places, the Marianists are engaged in education on all levels to empower the poor to reach for a better life. The Marianists are also committed to empowerment programs in the vast slums of two major cities, rescuing children from the unspeakable poverty of the streets.
