STUDY
UNDERWAY FOR RELOCATING MISSION

The Marianist Center at Mount St. John in Dayton houses the NACMS office
and the MSJ office. It previously housed the Province office for the
former Province of Cincinnati. A study is underway to determine the
feasibility of remodeling the building to house the staff of the Marianist
Mission.
The
Provincial Council has approved a detailed study of moving the Marianist
Mission from Franklin Street in downtown Dayton to the Marianist Center
at Mount St. John, which once housed the offices of the former Province
of Cincinnati. Mount St. John is in suburban Dayton. Preliminary architectural
designs and cost estimates for the move were submitted recently to the
Provincial Council by Lisa Gooding, Province director
of development, and shared with the Provincial Chapter and the Mount
St. John Council, which includes a representative from each of the entities
on the property. Renovation plans include the offices of the North America
Center for Marianist Studies, which would share space at the Marianist
Center with the Marianist Mission. The cost of upgrading the Franklin
Street building also is being studied before the decision to relocate
is made. According to Fr. Jim Fitz, the project's timeline
will be determined after final plans and cost estimates have been approved.

"EVERY
STORY IS A SACRED STORY"
Ray
McCracken, assistant director for programs at the North American
Center for Marianist Studies (NACMS), is doing the research project
of a lifetime—in fact, many lifetimes.
"Lest We Forget"
is the title of a series of interviews McCracken and others, including
the late Bro. Walt Oberster, have conducted with 120
Marianist brothers and sisters, primarily at the heathcare centers,
as part of a NACMS-sponsored research project. The aim of the project
is to record the life stories of Marianists and use the information
to examine trends and other findings. Ray says that 99 percent of brothers
were positive about their vocation and life choice. Read

A
THOUGHT

Photo
by Bro. Phil Aaron
The spiritual
quest is not for interesting "spiritual experiences"
but for the expansion of our capacity for mercy, the opening of
our hearts wide enough to embrace the world, and not just the
fragments of it, here and there, which at present we manage to
feel with and care about.
