Fr. Gabriel
Ng'ang'a Kirangah, 37, was ordained Oct. 29, 2005, at Our Lady
Queen of Peace Church in Nairobi, Kenya. He is the first Marianist to
be ordained a priest in the District of Eastern Africa. Archbishop
Raphael Ndingi Mwana'a Nzeki served as the ordaining bishop,
and Fr. George Cerniglia (General Administration) gave
the homily. Bro. Chola Mulenga called Fr. Gabriel to
this position of service, and all of the Marianists present affirmed
this call. Fr. Martin Solma presented Fr. Gabriel to
the archbishop for ordination.
The colorful ceremony included Burundi drummers and the dancers and
choir of St. Joseph the Worker Church, Fr. Gabriel's former parish in
Nairobi. Fr. Mike Nartker, district assistant for religious
life, planned the ordination and the reception that followed. Also in
attendance was Bro. José María Alvira
(General Administration). In January, Fr. Gabriel will begin Clinical
Pastoral Education at Kenyatta Hospital as part of his pastoral year,
during which he will serve also at various parishes and Marianist ministries.
Congratulations and prayers to Fr. Gabriel!

FIGHTS HURRICANE WILMA.
Fr. John Thompson (Hollywood, Fla.), president of Chaminade-Madonna
College Preparatory, reports that both the Jackson Street community
and the school survived Hurricane Wilma, although he
writes, "To say that it was scary would be an understatement."
The school lost many trees, a few windows, and sections of roof and
fence. Faculty, staff and maintenance crews worked together so that
school could reopen on Nov. 1. Fr. John wrote, "They really went
above and beyond the call of duty. I can say that at Chaminade-Madonna,
'Family Spirit' is not just a quaint notion, but a lived reality."
