RETREAT CENTER RENOVATION PLANS
As
part of the reconfiguration of the Marianist community in Cupertino,
Calif., two buildings on the campus of the former Marianist Retreat
Center—the Alcalde residence and the former archives building—will
be renovated to provide space for active and active retired brothers
as well as guests, according to Provincial Stephen Glodek.
As announced in the Feb. 22, 2005, issue of FamilyOnline (www.marianist.com/fol),
the Marianist Retreat Center is being renovated as a retirement and
healthcare facility, with an expanded chapel and dining room which will
serve as a gathering place for celebrations and funerals. The project
will be completed sometime in summer/fall 2006.
As part of this renovation
and expansion project, two longtime Marianist properties in Cupertino—the
Villa St. Joseph residence and the adjoining San Juan residence—will
be sold. The San Juan facility is the former Provincial house of the
Province of the Pacific.
"These buildings
have deep emotional resonance with the members of the former Province
of the Pacific," said Brother Stephen. "It
is our hope that this renovation and expansion will contribute
to a revitalized Marianist presence in the Cupertino area."
Bro.
Stephen asks for prayers for the project and offers particular
gratitude to Bro. John Haster, coordinator; Bro.
Tom Suda, project
manager; Bro. John Schlund, "major disposer"; and Bro.
Jim Roberts, artistic consultant.

The Provincial
Council announces that the Marianists will withdraw from the
parish of Parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Divina Providencia in
Villalba, Puerto Rico (familiarly known as Misíon Noell), after
serving the area for 53 years. The decision was made due to a lack of
Spanish-speaking personnel to replace Frs. Vincent Plassenthal
and Raymond Middendorf, both of whom have health concerns.
"We praise God for allowing us to serve the people of this parish
for more than 50 years," said Provincial Stephen Glodek.
"Father Vincent and Father Raymond have been the heart and arms
of this parish for many years, and to them we give a special note of
thanks." Read
Bro. Stephen's announcement, which includes a history of
the Marianists at Misíon Noell.

MYSTERY MARIANIST UNVEILED . . .

| It’s
Fr. Rudy Vela, who graduated from Central Catholic
High School in San Antonio. Rudy says: “What was important
during high school was the presence of many talented and creative
Marianist brothers. They were present to me and also to my family.
This has made me realize the importance of being present as a Marianist,
no matter where I go or who I’m with. I have never liked living
in a "rut" (a shallow grave). Marianist life is about
living life with a purpose.” |
