KEYMAN-IGE PROFESSES FIRST VOWS IN DAYTON

Following

Bro.
Isak Keyman-Ige, 47, professed first vows on May 21, 2005,
at Queen of Apostles chapel at Mount St. John in Dayton. Presiding at
the Eucharist was Fr. Jim Fitz, assistant provincial.
Provincial Stephen Glodek received the vows, and Fr.
Dave McGuigan, novice director, gave the homily. James
Pera directed the music; acolytes were Novices Alfredo
Chavez and Andrew Kosmowski. Bro. Isak is
the first professed Marianist brother from the African country of Somalia.
He lived in Italy and received a Ph.D. in international relations from
the University of Milan. Bro. Isak will join the Casa Maria community
in San Antonio, where he will lecture and study at St. Mary's University.
Our congratulations to Bro. Isak!
REGION
OF KOREA INAUGURATED ON PENTECOST SUNDAY

The Region of
Korea was officially inaugurated on May 15 during the liturgy of Pentecost
at the Regional Center in Seoul, Korea. Fr. Tim Kim,
regional superior of Korea, presided at the Mass and gave the homily.
Superior General Fr. David Fleming presented the official
decree of the establishment of the Region, and Provincial Stephen
Glodek, Fr. Eugen Mensdorff-Pouilly, regional
superior of Oesterreich-Deutschland, and Bro. Dennis Schmitz
gave reflections. A Korean feast followed the Eucharist. Also in attendance
were Fr. Louis-Ibaragi Shimizu, regional superior of
Japan, Fr. Jack Russi, former provincial of the former
Province of the Pacific, Bro. Bill Campbell, former
assistant provincial of the former Province of the Pacific, and more
than 200 members of the Region of Korea, Marianist lay communities,
and Marianist sisters. Congratulations and blessings to the members
of the Region of Korea!

Luke expressed his gratitude to the Province for his years of formation.

CAPE MAY
HOSTS BALTIMORE STUDENTS

Eighth
graders from Mother Seton Academy in Baltimore were
all smiles during a retreat on May 9-10 at the Marianist Family
Retreat Center in Cape May Point, N.J., which was made possible
by a grant from the Marianist Sharing Fund.

PREPARATORY
COMMISSION, 2006 GENERAL CHAPTER
General Superior
Fr. David Fleming announced the election of the two
final members of the Preparatory Commission for the 33rd General Chapter
in 2006. Bro. Maximin Magnan (Togo) and Fr.
Jack McGrath will join Fr. George Cerniglia,
liaison with the General Council, and appointed members Bro.
Domingo Fuentes (Brazil) and Fr. François Rossier
(Switzerland). The commission plans to meet during the summer
or early fall.
NEWMAN CENTER STUDENTS ARE CONFIRMED

2005, in Dayton. May he rest in peace. Visitation for Bro. Dick
will be May 26, 2005, at 6:30 p.m. at Queen of Apostles chapel at
Mount St. John, followed by a funeral liturgy at 7:30 p.m. Burial
is scheduled for May 27 at 10 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Cemetery at
Mount St. John. Bro. Dick's obituary will appear in the next issue

Bro. Norm Eckl (Mercy
Siena, Dayton), 78, who died May 14, 2005, in Dayton of pneumonia. May
he rest in peace. A Mass of the Resurrection for Bro. Norm was celebrated
May 19 at Queen of Apostles Chapel, Mount St. John, Dayton. He was buried
on May 20 at Queen of Heaven Cemetery at Mount St. John. Fr.
Jim Fitz presided at the Mass, and Fr. Norb Burns
gave the homily. In his welcome, Bro. Jack Somerville
said Bro. Norm had a great sense of humor and was an excellent mentor

Fr. Gus Biehl (East St. Louis, Ill.) was invited by the diocese
of Belleville, Ill., to a meeting of state legislators, representatives
of the diocese, and Francis Cardinal George, archbishop
of Chicago, on May 5-6 in Springfield, Ill., regarding the work of Catholic
Charities in the area.
Fr. Joe Tarrillion, president of Central Catholic High
School in San Antonio, awarded the 2005 Marianist Heritage Award
to Alicia Garcia and Carlos Enrico.

Community House, San Antonio), professor of theology at St. Mary's
University, has published an article, "Translation Errors in
the Pontifical Biblical Commission's The Jewish People and Their
Sacred Scriptures," in the Spring 2005 issue of Biblical
Theology Bulletin. |
Bro. Al Kuntemeier (Fort Worth, Texas) reports that Nolan Catholic
High School's women's tennis team won the state championship for the
second year in a row. Bro. Al has coached the team for 24 years.

Bro. Jack Somerville (novitiate,
Dayton) reports that crackers and water containers (intact and filled
with water) from 1960 found in an old bomb shelter at the Dayton novitiate
were donated to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force at Wright-Patterson
AFB. A thank-you note from Major General Charles Metcalf (Ret.)
read, ". . . you have contributed significantly to the
preservation of our history, our Air Force heritage and tradition, and
the memory of those who led the way."
Msgr. Kevin Vann of the diocese of Springfield, Ill., has been
appointed coadjutor bishop-designate of the diocese of Fort Worth, Texas,
by Pope Benedict XVI. Fr. Quentin Hakenewerth was the
spiritual director to Fr. Vann when they were both in Rome in the 1980s.

a Missionary Heart." The article appears in the Spring 2005 issue
of Seminary Journal, which is edited by Bro. Bernie
Stratman.

Jim Imhof reports that on May 14, the brothers of Villa St.
Joseph in Cupertino honored the nurses and healthcare workers who offer
