PROVINCE
ASSEMBLY TO BE HELD IN JUNE 2007
Provincial
Stephen Glodek has announced that a Province Assembly will be
held in late June 2007, and will include a review of the Province's first
five years, as well as goal setting and installation of the new Provincial
Council. Bro. Jack Ventura is chair of the Assembly Coordinating
committee; committee members are Fr. Larry Doersching, Bro. John
Haster, Diane Guerra, and Bros. Frank O'Donnell and
Jack Somerville. The assembly location has not been determined.
FR. VARGHESE ORDAINED JAN. 5 IN INDIA
Fr. Varghese
Manooparampil was ordained on Jan. 5, 2005, at Deepahalli Church
in India. He was joined by family, friends, Marianist brothers, MLC members
and the REDS and Regional Office staff. Fr. Joe Lackner
and Fr. Ignase Arulappen, regional superior, participated
in the ceremony. The Rt. Rev. Archbishop Benedict J. Osta,
SJ, gave the homily and presided at the ordination ceremony. Congratulations
to Fr. Varghese!

BROS.
OSCAR, GABRIEL ORDAINED TO DIACONATE
Bros. Gabriel
N. Kirangah and Oscar L. Vasquez were ordained
to the diaconate at Santo Nome di Maria (The Holy Name of Mary), a Marianist
parish in Rome, on Jan. 22, 2005. The ordaining bishop was Cardinal
Stephen Fumio Hamao. Also ordained were Bros. Georges
Kouame Gbeze and Rafael Iglesias. Our prayers
and best wishes to these men!

At the Jan. 17-18 meeting
of the Province Directory Committee in St. Louis, Fr. Jim Fitz,
chair, reports that the group reviewed feedback from Province members
and prepared a new draft of the Province Financial Policies for the March
2005 Chapter. Bro. Mike O'Grady gave an update on the
Province Formation Policies. Committee members were assigned responsibilities
for drafting other parts of the Directory.
MID-LIFE CONFERENCE IN DAYTON

Thirty
Marianist LIFE (Living In Faith Experience) moderators and coordinating
team members gathered Jan. 7-9 at the Bergamo Center in Dayton for the
first national Mid-LIFE conference. Participants networked, prayed, and
shared best practices. Fr. Joe Tedesco delivered the
keynote speech, "Community Participant Discernment Principles."

Family Council of North America – Jean Canning, Marge Cavanaugh,

MOELLER
HELPS VICTIMS OF HURRICANE IVAN

Bro.
Charlie Wanda (Montgomery Rd., Cincinnati) reports that the
faculty, staff and students of Archbishop Moeller High School in Cincinnati
donated T-shirts and money to Jamaica's St. John Bosco Boys
School, which was damaged in Hurricane Ivan. Sr.
Judy Klei, who teaches religion at Moeller, alerted the school
community to the issue. Moeller's Marianist brothers helped collect
the shirts and made a donation to the fundraising efforts. Pictured

Anso (Assistant for Temporalities) reflects on his visit to MIRACLE
in Karonga, Malawi — living in "a world of war without peace
and justice." He writes, "We Marianists have a voice, a prestige

your country those with whom we can unite our voice in order to try to

Vocation Director Bro.
Charles Johnson and Bro. Brian Halderman (Washington
St., Dayton) report that the Vocations office ran an ad on www.disciplesnow.com,
a Catholic Web site for teenagers and young adults, during Vocations Awareness
Week (Jan. 9-14). The ad received 1,288 views, and 71 viewers clicked
on the ad to visit the Vocations Web site, www.buildingcommunity.org.

WHO'S DOING WHAT
Fr. Mike Reaume (Dublin, Ireland) participated in the
Senior Religious Spiritual Renewal Program last fall at the Marist International
Spirituality Centre in Manziana, Italy. From January to May 2005, he is
attending the School of Applied Theology in Berkeley, Calif.

the new Provincial of the Province of Zaragoza. He is currently serving

Larry Hufford and Kurt Weber of
St. Mary's University in San Antonio have been awarded the school's
2005 Marianist Heritage Award. The award recognizes lay people who
support and promote the Catholic, Marianist mission of St. Mary's.

Bro. John
Habjan, assistant director of education for the Province,
reports that St. Mary's High School in St. Louis
has served the Catholic community in St. Louis for 72 years and
has a student body of almost 500 young men. Several Lay Marianist
groups are active in the community. Fr. Richard O'Shaughnessy
teaches at St. Mary's and founded the first group of Lay Marianists
at the school. Any school interested in starting Lay Marianist groups

Marianists to offer the Cultural Audit, a tool to help communities better
understand their own culture and their attitudes toward people from other

It's
Fr. Ted Ley and his younger brother Mike Ley,
who became one of the best bassists and mandolinists in LA, playing
with the likes of Sonny and Cher, Chubby Checker, Steve Miller, Little
Anthony & the Imperials and Hank Penny. Mike now is the lead singer
and guitarist of the Riders of the Purple Sage. As young boys, Ted
and Mike often played country music together at a local bar. |

Ted became famous in his own right as founder and director of the
Schola Cantorum, which provides vocal and instrumental music education
and has a concert and liturgical ensemble. |
