Fr. John Mulligan, 75, who died Dec. 5, 2004, at Mercy
Siena in Dayton, apparently of a heart attack. May he rest in peace. Fr.
Pat Tonry presided at a Mass of Resurrection held Dec. 11 at
Queen of Apostles chapel at Mount St. John in Dayton. Bro. Stephen
Glodek led the reflection, and Fr. Jack McGrath
gave the homily. "As he was a fine professional, an outstanding Marianist
religious, he was also a great friend, very special on the personal level,"

Fr. François Joseph Pralong (Region of Switzerland),
82, who died Dec. 8, 2004, in Sion, Switzerland. May he rest in peace.

Harold was the father of Fr. Jim Bartlett (Marianist
Novitiate, Dayton).
Mary Lorraine Knopp, who died Dec. 20, 2004. May she
rest in peace. Mary was the mother of Sr. Patricia Knopp
(Marianist Regional Vocation Office, Dayton).
Vernon Yost, 82, who died Dec. 9, 2004, in Omaha, Neb.,
after a long illness. May he rest in peace. Vernon was a longtime lay
Marianist affiliate.
Mary Bezdek, 86, who died Dec. 20, 2004, in St. Louis.
Mary was the mother of Sue McKamely, secretary to Fr.
Jim Fitz and Fr. Joe Lackner.
Stephen Yano, who died recently. May he rest in peace.
Stephen was a senior at the University of Dayton.

Mike Ley, who suffered a stroke which affected his left

GOVERNOR'S ISLAND GETS A MAKEOVER
The Governor's
Island property on Indian Lake in Huntsville, Ohio, is undergoing
extensive renovations. New flooring, utilities, appliances and fixtures
- including a new kitchen and bathroom - will be installed in the main
house, which was built around 1920. The building belonged to the governor
of Ohio before being donated in the early 1950s to the Marianists. Bro
Tom Payne (Province director of property, insurance & fleet)
is the project supervisor. Renovations are scheduled to be completed by
March 2005.

MARIAN'S HOLIDAY GIVEAWAY

Students
at Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati gathered
more than 7,000 canned goods and clothing items for needy families
through the school's annual Holiday Give-Away Program. Jen
Meinking, head of Purcell Marian's campus ministry, directed
the efforts. Teacher Lenny Hamm's Latin class (pictured
above) collected gifts for children in need. |

JERSEY TEAM PLANS PARISH RETREAT

The
Marianist ministry team for central New Jersey met to prepare a Marianist
family retreat for a New Jersey parish that will take place in late January.

DOING WHAT

Bro. Victor Forlani (Washington St., Dayton) was a key
player in the development of the Salary Advance Loan Program, a joint
project by the University of Dayton (UD) and three Dayton-area credit
unions. The program provides alternatives to high-interest payday loans.
Bro. Victor teaches in the Management and Marketing Department of UD's
School of Business Administration.

Bro. Juan García (Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico),
director of Instituto Villa del Espíritu Santo, was invited by
Bishop Rutilo Muñoz to represent his diocese at
the 16th National Assembly of Catholic Education held Nov. 17-19 at Cerro
Cubilete, Guanajuato. Sixty bishops, diocesan directors of education,
religious brothers and sisters, and lay educators participated in the
assembly.
Fr. Jim Heft (Trinity Ave., Dayton) delivered a homily
on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, "Supernatural Family Planning,"

Bro. Paul Novosal (Marianist Residence, San Antonio)
organized a prayer service on Dec. 8 for the rededication and 50th
anniversary of St. Mary's University's monument to Mary, "The
Immaculate Queen of the University," which stands in front of
St. Louis Hall. Fr. Terry Weik (Woodlawn Marianist
Community, San Antonio) and the University Ministry staff presided
at the service. |

St. Mary's University Law School) co-wrote an article about promoting
ministry on a Catholic school campus, which was published in the December
2004/January 2005 issue of Crossroads, the journal of the Catholic Campus
Ministry Association.

of Honolulu, was honored as a "Distinguished Woman in Education"
at the Girl Scout Council of Hawaii's 2004 "Women of Distinction"
dinner held Dec. 1. Congratulations, Sue! |
Fr. Larry Doersching (Fort Worth, Texas), president
of Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth, reports that the school's
football team won its first state championship in the school's 43-year
history. Nolan defeated Houston St. Pius to win the title. |

Bro. Louis Fournier will move from the Curé of
Ars Community in St. Louis to Alumni Hall at the University of Dayton,
effective Jan. 1, 2005. Bro. Louis will be working in the Marianist Archives—Eastern
Region.
Bro. William McCall has moved from the Marianist Community
in West Hills, Calif., to the Marianist Community in Cupertino, Calif.,
at the Villa St. Joseph residence.
George Guchuhi, temporary professed of the Region of
Eastern Africa, has received dispensation from his temporary vows by the
Superior General.

reports that St. John Vianney High School in St.
Louis, located at the site of the former Maryhurst Postulate in
southwest St. Louis County, began classes in 1960. Today Vianney
has 720 male students, with 47 dedicated laypersons and three full-time
Marianists on staff. The following Marianists are in full or part-time
ministry at St. John Vianney: Fr. Bob Osborne,
president; Bro. Chester Burnog, Bro. Walter Ebbesmeyer,
Bro. Len Rudy and Fr. Bill Wightman. To

RITE OF PASSAGE

Fr.
Allen DeLong (Center Marianist, Honolulu), president of Saint
Louis School in Honolulu, offers a blessing to the school's junior class
on Nov. 21 during the Rite of Passage ceremony, when the students officially
become upperclassmen. Family, friends and faculty attended the ceremony.

PREPARATORY
COMMISSION HOLDS FIRST MEETING

The
first meeting of the Preparatory Commission for the General Chapter
of 2006 was held at the University of Dayton Nov. 26-28. From left,
the first three members of the commission: Fr. François
Rossier (Region of Switzerland), Fr. George Cerniglia
(General Administration liaison), and Bro. Domingo Fuentes
(Sector of Brazil). Once the delegates to the General Chapter have
been determined, two other members of the Preparatory Commission will
be elected. The General Chapter in July 2006 will be held in Rome.

REGION OF KOREA HOLDS CHAPTER

The Region
of Korea held its 10th Regional Chapter at the Seoul novitiate Nov. 11-13.
All Chapter members (four council members and seven elected members) discussed
the Korean Region’s change in status to independence, and made a
tentative Charter for the General Administration to approve through the
Korean Regional council. All members also accepted the"China Mission

LITTLEST ANGEL
 This
little angel attends the Catholic Day Care Center in East St. Louis,
Ill., where Bros. John Laudenbach and Norbert
Karpfinger minister. The day care children presented a Christmas
pageant to the staff of the Province office in St. Louis, which was
followed by a hot dog lunch, presents and a visit by Santa Claus.
The event was the idea of Bro. Charles Johnson, with
help from the Province Prayer & Social Committee
