MARIANIST EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATES GATHER IN ST. LOUIS

At the June 2 MEA gathering hosted by the Provincial Council, clockwise from top left, Bro. Jerry Bommer (Chaminade University of Honolulu), Tom Hoffman (St. Mary’s University) and David Coleman (CUH); Dick Ferguson (University of Dayton) and Bro. Jerry; Wayne Romo (St. Mary’s) and Fr. Jim Fitz (UD); Pat Stephens (Province staff), Bro. Ray Fitz (UD), Assistant Provincial Bro. Joe Kamis and Bro. Bob Resing (staff assistant)

On June 2, Marianist Educational Associates gathered at the Province offices in St. Louis for a tour, Eucharist, dinner and conversation. The Provincial Council hosted the event. Before Mass, Bro. Charlie Johnson gave a presentation about vocations, and Allison Hewitt, executive director of development, spoke about the role of development. Fr. Paul Marshall presided at Eucharist.

“The gathering was very energizing for all of us – Provincial Council members, Provincial staff and the MEAs,” said Bro. Ed Brink, Provincial assistant for education. “It provided a fantastic opportunity for us to interact and to hear different perspectives on the same mission.”

The 22 MEAs in attendance represented the University of Dayton, Chaminade University of Honolulu and St. Mary’s University. The MEAs were in town for a workshop from May 31 – June 3 at the Marianist Retreat & Conference Center in Eureka, Mo. Fr. Jack McGrath, executive director of the Association of Marianist Universities, Bro. Tom Giardino, executive director of the International Center for Marianist Formation, and Bro. Ray Fitz, rector at UD, organized the workshop. “This was the first ongoing formation program for the MEAs of all three universities, and the response was edifying,” said Bro. Tom. “The deep desire of the MEAs to be cultural catalysts at their university was evident, as was the fact that they experience this service as a call from God. The MEAs clearly have a willingness to nourish and sustain the call.”
