RIPPED
FROM THE HEADLINES
Dan Curran, president of the University of Dayton, was interviewed
for a front-page story in the Boston Globe on June 23 about the
growing number of lay presidents heading Catholic universities. Reporter
Tatsha Robertson wrote: "He (Curran) said that he is committed to
leading in the tradition of the Marianists, who emphasize public service,
but also said he brings a unique perspective as a Catholic layman with
a wife and teenage sons." Curran said: ". . . the Marianists
will still be on campus and their model is still important, but the lay
leader provides a complementary model."
Bro. Mel Meyer (Curé of Ars, St. Louis) is in the news again!
He's featured in the June 2003 issue of Missouri Life magazine.
Bro. Mel's philosophy on art: "I don't want to sit around having
philosophical discussions about it. Art is in the making. Just do it and
have fun." To read the entire story, please

The University of Dayton has received a $120,000 grant from the
Henry Luce Foundation to support visiting distinguished professors in
the doctoral program in theology.

A
THOUGHT
| Rest is
not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summers
day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds
float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
