More than 300 brothers, priests, sisters, Lay Marianists and staff attended the Province Gathering, June 30 to July 4 in Louisville, Ky. The theme of the assembly was “Gather at the River: Boldly Charting our Future.” Fr. Larry Doersching, assembly committee chair, gave the opening remarks and welcomed Archbishop Joseph Kurtz (Archdiocese of Louisville), who participated in the opening prayer. The Province thanked the retiring Council members, including Provincial Stephen Glodek and Assistant Provincial James Fitz, who led the Province since its creation in 2002. A major focus of the Gathering was Vision 2020, the Province’s 10-year roadmap for the future. Sessions, which included reflections by many members of the Marianist Family, were facilitated by Tony Fitzgerald, who assisted the Province in developing Vision 2020. The sessions ended with comments from the new Provincial Council members.

All members of the Marianist Family are invited to Evening Prayer at 7 p.m. on July 16 at Our Lady of the Pillar Parish in St. Louis to celebrate the official closing of the Tribunal in St. Louis investigating the cure of Rachel Baumgartner Lozano, a young St. Louis woman. The prayer will be followed by a reception. In attendance will be Bro. Michael McAward, Marianist secretary general. SPOTLIGHT ON 2010 JUBILARIANS

FamilyOnline honors Marianists celebrating a milestone anniversary this year. Each issue will profile jubilarians and pay tribute to their dedication to the Marianist mission.

Bro. Mitch Schweickart
, 25 years professed

“Opening the eyes of urban children to the wonders of science and the natural world around them, processing with a new group of urban plunge participants who came to our community to confront their prejudices and fears toward those who live lives molded by poverty, helping to provide music to our local parish, our school, our Province – these are the works to which God has called me.” Read more from Bro. Mitch.

Bro.  Bob Politi
, 50 years professed

“As a Marianist, I have been able to serve students with special needs. Reaching out to these students has given me the grace to be human, to accept who I am, the gifts and talents that God has blessed me with.” Read more from Bro. Bob.

Bro. Dan Stupka
, 60 years professed

“Without hesitation, I can say the one most rewarding experience for me occurred on Sept. 8, 1950, when I took my first vows.  Most of my truly rewarding experiences after that came as a result of taking vows and becoming a Marianist.” Read more from Bro. Dan.

Fr.  Joe Stefanelli
, 70 years professed

“Life as a Marianist has been happy, fulfilling, challenging, a great adventure and a great grace! When I left home to join the Marianists two things were clear in my mind: I wanted to teach young people, and I did not want to be a priest (or I would have gone to the diocesan seminary). After 70 years, I have taught school for six years, and have been a priest 59. So much for ‘knowing the will of God!’”
