MARIANIST
CENTER IN CUPERTINO TO CLOSE
Dear Members of the Marianist Family,
It is with regret that the Provincial
Council announces the closing of the Marianist Center in Cupertino, Calif.,
effective August 2003. Although the Center will no longer be used for
retreats, it will remain a Marianist property. Plans for use of the Center
are undecided; we will keep you informed as plans develop. The
closing is due to financial necessities, including the economic downturn,
the rising costs of running a retreat center, and the availability of
other retreat centers in the area.

Marianist Center in Cupertino |
The Marianist Center
has nourished many souls in its long service to the area. We are truly
grateful to Director Kevin Dincher and his staff for their spirit
of service and excellent programs.
We also thank Bro.
John Haster for agreeing to manage this transition at the Center.
Please contact Bro. John concerning use of the property.
|
Blessings to you,

Brother Stephen Glodek

NATIONAL
L.I.F.E. COORDINATOR TO BE HIRED
The Provincial Council
has authorized the hiring of a national coordinator for the Marianist
L.I.F.E. (Living in Faith Experiences) and Marianist LIFE alumni programs.
Bro. Jack Ventura, assistant in the Province Office of Religious
Life, will supervise the national coordinator, who will be hired this
fall. The job description will be based on the description developed from
the national LIFE team proposal several years ago. Bro Jack will collaborate
with LIFE team coordinators and alumni to enhance the job description.
The job opening will be posted in all publications of the Province and
Marianist Family.
For more than 20 years, LIFE has provided
a Catholic, community-centered six-day retreat for high school youth.
LIFE is rooted in community, sacraments and prayer and works to form disciples
with skills for servant leadership to the Church and the world.
COUNCIL
FUNDS LAY MARIANIST FORMATION PROGRAMS
To help continue lay Marianist formation
programs and projects, the Provincial Council has allocated funding for
these programs under the responsibility of Bro. Jack Ventura. Bro.
Jack invites lay and religious Marianists to submit proposals for lay
Marianist formation programs and projects via e-mail at jventura@sm-usa.org.
"I look forward to tapping into the creative energy of our lay Marianists
to develop programs and projects that will meet their formational needs,"
Bro. Jack said.
As announced earlier, the Marianist
Family Council of North America is collaborating on a joint lay Marianist
formation initiative with the Society of Mary, the Marianist Sisters and
the Marianist Lay Network of North America. The funds announced above
will support lay Marianist formation programs until the new entity is
in place. A concept team will meet in September to flesh out the
details of the initiative. Team members include Fr. Jim Fitz and
Bro. Jack Ventura (SM); Sr. Mary Louise Foley (FMI); Kurt
Weber and Mary Andrews (lay Marianists); and other individuals
representing different groups and parts of the country. The work completed
in September will be discussed at the Nov. 8 meeting of the Marianist
Family Council in San Antonio.
PLEASE
PRAY FOR THE REPOSE OF THE SOUL OF

and a reception and luncheon. Fr. Reile was the author of Running Giant,
the life of Father Chaminade, one of the most requested works at the North
