PROVINCIAL CHAPTER RATIFIES “VISION 2020” DOCUMENT

Bill Meyer and Pragasam Thathappa (district superior of India); Bro. Ed Longbottom (district superior of Mexico), Fr. Pablo Rambaud (foundation coordinator of the Philippines), Bros. Dennis Schmitz and José María Alvira; and Bro. Les Kaehler, Fr. Roland Bunda and Bro. Mike O’Grady

During the 17th session of the Provincial Chapter of the Province of the United States, Chapter members ratified Vision 2020 - Our Apostolic Mission, a document which describes the direction of the Province of the United States for the next 10 years. Vision 2020 is the result of two years of strategic planning. With the ratification by the Chapter, the new Provincial Council will begin to execute the plan July 1, 2010.

The Chapter meeting was held March 4 - 8 at the Marianist Retreat and Conference Center in Eureka, Mo. Documents for the Chapter are on the PORTAL for review by Province members.

Provincial Stephen Glodek said, “Fr. Chaminade wrote that ‘…a new fulcrum must be found for the lever that moves the modern world.’ That fulcrum was and is the power of community to create and transform the world. Our strategic planning is calling us to what Chaminade described as ‘vaster and more improved methods.’ We must move ahead with the imagination and apostolic courage with which Blessed Chaminade has endowed us.”

Tony Fitzgerald, who facilitated the entire planning process, said that Chapter members were very engaged in discussing Vision 2020, which represents the input of brothers across the Province. “Vision 2020 is very responsive to the signs of the times and addresses the needs of the local community, the Church and society.”

Fr. Bill Behringer, 50 years ordained

Bro. Ed Brink
, 25 years professed

“If there is one ‘surprise’ for me from the last 25 years, it has to do with how the image of Mary as the first disciple has captured my attention. I’m not going to give birth to Jesus, but I am called to make him present in this world.” Read more from Bro. Ed.

Bro. Phil Aaron, 60 years professed

“My Marianist life has provided a variety of settings that have put me in touch with a broad spectrum of educational experiences.
