Chaminade University of Honolulu hosted
the Marianist Universities Meeting (MUM) from June 1 to 4, 2009. The meeting
focused on the development of the Marianist Educational Associates
(MEAs) on the campuses of the three Marianist universities – Chaminade,
the University of Dayton and St. Mary’s University. Bro.
Ray Fitz, executive director of the Association of Marianist
Universities, and Bro. Tom Giardino, director of the
International Center for Marianist Formation, facilitated a process
that examined the founding stories and original intent of the MEA program;
the MEA experience on each campus; the impact and challenges for the
MEA movement; refining and enriching the core elements of the MEA movement;
and planning for future collaboration across the campuses.
Those attending included
the three presidents, the three sponsorship officers, Marianist Educational
Associates, and representatives of the Marianist Province of the
U.S. The results of the MUM work
will be edited by Bro. Ray and reviewed by the AMU board at its October
meeting. It was the general consensus that the meeting was a positive
contribution to the development of the MEAs, a structure to enhance
and strengthen the Marianist and Catholic identity on the campuses
of our Province universities.

“Saving Grace”by Mike Anthony
|
CHAMINADE COLLEGE PREPARATORY, ST. LOUIS. Art teacher Mike Anthony was inspired by a quote from Blessed Chaminade to create a painting of Mary entitled “Saving Grace.” The quote Mike reflected on was: "I am like a brook that makes no effort to overcome obstacles in its way. All the obstacles can do is hold me up for a while, as a brook is held up; but during that time it grows broader and deeper, and after a while it overflows the obstruction and flows along again. That is how I am going to work."
The painting is on display at Chaminade.
