The Marianist Universities
Meeting was held at the University of Dayton June 2-5, 2008. Bro.
Ray Fitz, executive director of the Association of Marianist
Universities, and Dave Ramey, president of Strategic
Leadership Associates, Inc., headed the meeting. Participants included
the presidents and rectors from the three universities, vice presidents,
critical academic leaders, AMU board members and members of the Province.
Several Marianist Educational Associates from each campus also attended.
Attendees completed a three to five year strategic plan for the AMU,
including articulation of vision, mission, strategic goals and an action
plan. “There was a lot of energy around the strategic plan,”
said Bro. Ed Brink, Province director of education.
“We now have direction for cooperation among the Marianist universities

INITIATES STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS
Provincial
Stephen Glodek announces a two-year Province Strategic
Planning process that is underway and will conclude in March 2010.
Eight Marianists have been chosen for the planning committee to
provide leadership and coordination: Bro. Jim Burkholder (San
Antonio), Bro. Ray Fitz (Dayton), Bro.
Francisco González (San Juan, P.R.), Bro.
Bob Hoppe (Honolulu), Bro. Bob Jones (Cincinnati), Fr.
Jim Tobin (St. Louis), Fr. Steve Tutas (Cupertino,
Calif.) and Bro. Jack Ventura (St. Louis). Read
more about the committee members.
“Our efforts
to discern what will be for us is aimed at discerning the
design for and hopeful future of the Society of Mary in our country
and where we serve overseas,” said Bro. Glodek. “Together
we pray that God will bless our humble efforts as a Province to live
Mary’s mission and foster for our time the good news of Jesus
Christ.”
The process includes
three phases: In Phase One (spring/summer 2008),
the committee will agree on how to organize the consultations and
conversations needed for the process, and will clarify parameters
for the planning. In Phase Two (fall 2008 to summer
2009), the committee will seek input from the brothers of the Province
and then identify critical issues, goals and strategies. The committee
will solicit input on formulating goals and strategies and aligning
personnel and financial resources as part of final recommendations.
In Phase Three (fall 2009 to March 2010), the Provincial
Council and Provincial Chapter will ratify a strategic plan for the
Province and an implementation timeline.
Tony
Fitzgerald, facilitator for the strategic planning process,
runs a consulting and facilitating service focused on nonprofit
organizations. He offers strategic planning, organizational consulting,
goal and measurement setting and board/committee formation activities.
Prior to his consulting work, he worked in management for 31 years
with J.C. Penney, which included the company’s organizational
development efforts. In 2007, Tony was co-chair with Bro. Jack
Ventura of the Province “Sharing the Mission” board
formation initiative designed to share the Marianist charism and
mission characteristics with Marianist institutions and ministries
and their boards. Tony has been part of the Marianist Family for
more than 40 years.
