“MISA
DE GALLO” AT
ST. ANTHONY HONORS TRADITION
Fr.
Roland Bunda (Maui
Marianist Community) reports on the success of the “Misa de
Gallo” event at St. Anthony Parish, where
he serves as pastor. Miso de Gallo is literally translated “Rooster’s
Mass” in Spanish, which owes its name to the belief that a rooster
was among the first to witness the birth of Jesus. The Filipino custom
includes a nine-day novena of Masses from Dec. 16 to Dec. 24, with
breakfast afterwards. Fr. Roland and Fr. Jerry Pleva, with other
area priests, took turns saying the Mass at 5 a.m. during the novena.
