Thanksgiving
is the holiday of peace, the celebration of work and the simple
life
... a true folk-festival that speaks the poetry
of the
turn of the seasons, the beauty of seedtime and harvest, the ripe
product of the year—and the deep, deep connection of all
these things with God. - Ray

School Administrators Conference Nov. 5 to Nov. 7 in St.
Louis. The meeting was organized by the Province Office of Education.
Presenters included Bro. Ed Brink, assistant for
education, who, in his opening remarks, made connections between
Mary as the first
disciple and the work of the administrators. He also reinforced
the importance of ongoing dialogue in implementing a school’s
mission. George Lisjak, office of education, discussed
educating for service, change and peace and justice and presented
statistical trends
occurring in
Marianist schools. Dave Ramey, a facilitator who has
been working with the office of
education, gathered feedback from the administrators on the Marianist
Educational Consortium. Bro. John Habjan, office
of education, provided an update on
mission effectiveness and Mission Integration Teams. The meetings also
included time
for prayer, conversation, and a field trip to St. John Vianney High
School in St. Louis for a tour and presentation on its leadership
program for
freshmen. After visiting the school, a reception was hosted by Bros.
Mel Meyer and Brian

MARIANIST LAY COMMUNITY
IN DAYTON WALKS THE TALK
While researching
the history of Mount St. John in Dayton, Patti Gehred,
a NACMS employee, read about
the “Grand Walk,” in the “History
of the Cincinnati Province” by Bro. Donald Boccardi.
The Grand Walk is a tradition where Marianists gather for prayer
and walk from
Mount St. John to the University of Dayton (5.5 miles). Patti
is a member of a new Marianist Lay Community in Dayton. The
group
liked
the tradition and opted to name their MLC the “Grand
Walkers.” They
completed their first “Grand Walk” on Nov. 10 and
hope to make it an annual event open to all members of the
Marianist Family.
If you have information or memories to share about the “Grand
Walk,” contact
