Marianist Province of the United States Socially Responsible Investing Actions for 2005-06

The province pursued actions with sixteen different corporations with whom we are investors in the 2005-06 fiscal year. Again, this activity was part of our ongoing relationship between the province Office of Peace and Justice and the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR). Three of the corporations base their operations out of St. Louis (Boeing, Monsanto and Emerson). Eight others are also based in cities with a Marianist presence. Our basic strategy is to address a company on issues of their social responsibility through either dialogue or the shareholder resolution process. The province co-filed shareholder resolutions with seven companies on issues ranging from corporate governance, workers rights, and the environment. The Marianists are the primary filer on a resolution with Computer Sciences Corporation in California to increase the diversity on their Board of Directors (all white males).
