BRO. STEPHEN GLODEK REAPPOINTED U.S. PROVINCIAL

On July 29, the General Council in Rome reappointed Bro. Stephen Glodek to a second term of three years as provincial of the United States. The appointment is effective July 1, 2007. Bro. Stephen has been in provincial leadership since 1986. He was assistant provincial of the former New York province for seven years and provincial for nine years. In July 2002, when the four U.S. provinces merged to create the Marianist Province of the United States, Bro. Stephen was appointed provincial of the new province. Bro. Stephen holds degrees in English literature, historical theology and clinical child psychology. He recently served as president of the 2006 General Chapter Meeting in Rome.

On Sept. 25, the Superior General will write a letter to the Province giving the concerns of the Province in the consultation for Provincial. Soon after he will send a letter to the Province and initiate the consultation for assistant provincial. The assistant provincial is expected to be named by Nov. 1. Shortly thereafter, Bro. Stephen will begin the consultation for the new Provincial Council. According to Bro. Stephen, it is the hope that the Council can be named before he and Fr. Jim Fitz leave for Africa on Dec. 29. In late January or early February, the election of the new Provincial Chapter will begin. Bro. Stephen is hopeful that the Council and Chapter will be in place before Easter.

Congratulations and our prayers to Bro. Stephen for his continued strength and vision. Read more from General Superior Manuel Cortés.
