MARIANIST ARTISTS EXHIBIT
The current exhibit closing this week displays the recent works of Bro. Joe Barrish, Bro. John Lemker, Bro. Don Smith and Bro. Charlie Wanda.
BRO. DON SMITH
Bro. Don recently had a ceramic piece purchased at the DVAC Members’ show at the downtown Dayton Gallery. The couple who purchased the piece has residences in New Orleans and Paris.
He is currently finishing a commission of 48 crosses for Purcell-Marian High School in Cincinnati. The crosses will be mounted in classroom and offices. The crosses are mounted on walnut panels with 24 of them being of the traditional Marianist Crosses with the “M” and 24 of the contemporary Marianist Cross with a thin blue cross and the red script “M.
Another recent commission is for a mosaic mural of the Crucifixion scene which will be mounted on the wall above the altar in the chapel at Bergamo center.
BRO. JOHN LEMKER
Bro. John contributed all the photographs used in the 15 month calendar produced by Marianist Mission for 2006 – 2007.
BRO. JOE BARRISH
Joe Barrish has several examples of his work in the recently published work, The New Creatrive Artist. Joe attended the book signing with author Nita Leland at Books and Company on August 17. Another book in the series in which Joe was also featured had a circulation of 75,000 which is impressive for an art book.
Bro. Joe is currently working with webmaster Mr. Dan Barrett on the production of the Gallery St. John website which will be available soon.
BRO. CHARLIE WANDA
Bro. Charlie recently completed a commissioned oil painting of an Autumn scene for a couple in Cincinnati. He is currently producing watercolor and oil paintings for the February show before leaving for eight weeks in Italy.
