Marianist Residence in Baltimore, Maryland

For those members of the Province who read the annual report of the Provincial Council to the Provincial Chapter, you have noted that the Provincial Council, after much discernment, has decided to sell the Roland Avenue property in Baltimore, Maryland.

The Provincial Council studied for some time uses of this property in Baltimore and solicited ideas for how this house might be used for the Province mission. This led to a discussion about how we as Marianist religious would minister in the Baltimore area. The Provincial Council has decided that our ministerial presence in the Baltimore area will continue in two ways for the foreseeable future: primarily at St. Joseph’s Parish in Eldersburg and at Mother Seton Academy in Baltimore. Given this decision, the Council decided that the Roland Avenue residence is no longer needed for our mission in Baltimore and so the house was listed for sale. We have signed a contract for the sale of the house. The Provincial Council appreciates all the work that Bro. Frank O’Donnell has done in spearheading the move from the Roland Avenue residence.

The Province has opened a new community near Mother Seton in a former rectory rented from the Archdiocese of Baltimore. This residence will house a Marianist community composed of religious who work at Mother Seton Acadamy and Marianist religious working at other ministries in the Baltimore area. The present members of that community will be Bro. Frank O’Donnell (ministering as a staff attorney at the Office of Administrative Hearings and on the Board of Mother Seton Academy), Bro. Joseph Mwaura (studying for a pastoral counseling degree at Loyola College of Baltimore) and Bro. Lawrence Corbin (who will be moving to Baltimore in mid-March and will be seeking employment as a social worker at Mother Seton Academy or Catholic Charities of Baltimore). The Provincial Council hopes to add other members to the community in the future.

The address and phone number for the new community is:

Marianist Community
317 S. Broadway
Baltimore, MD 21231-2408
410-522-1568 (Community)
410-522-1568 (Fax is the same number)

The Provincial Council thanks all of those who contributed to this discernment and asks the Province to pray for the members of the new community.
