Chaminade College Preparatory
St. Louis, Missouri

In 1910, Chaminade College Preparatory School was founded by the Marianists in St. Louis. The school was originally opened as a day school for young men. Today, over 950 students in grades six through 12 from the St. Louis area, the United States and from around the world receive their education at Chaminade. Chaminade is proud to be a Catholic school daily living out the Characteristics of Marianist Education. The 55-acre campus includes 10 buildings and is located in West St. Louis County. Next door to the school is Our Lady of the Pillar parish – Fr. Jim Tobin is pastor; Fr. Don Cahill and Bro. Bill O’Leary are in ministry in the parish.

Chaminade Preparatory offers a resident program that includes students from the United States and throughout the world. Over the years many countries have been represented at the school: Mexico, Korea, Thailand, Taiwan, Rwanda, Bosnia, Hong Kong, Peru and Nigeria. This combination of young men provides a challenging exchange and sharing of culture, language, and customs, adding to the diversity of the student body and to the global dimension of the learning environment.

The curriculum at Chaminade is college preparatory with Advanced Placement courses offered in eight academic areas. All students and faculty utilize laptops for educational and personal applications. In recent years, 99 percent of the school’s graduates advance to higher education, with an average of 75 percent of graduates receiving scholarships or special recognition awards.

The Chaminade house system (based on the Australian model) was implemented in 2003 to further enhance the mission of the school in three ways: by developing Marianist leaders among the students; by providing a vehicle for the pastoral care of all students; and by strengthening the community life of the school. Each of the five houses is named after a member of the Marianist Family—Brother Vincent Gray, S.M., Marie Therese de Lamourous, Father Leo Meyer, S.M., Brother John O’Donnell, S.M. and Father Francis Xavier Mauclerc, S.M.
