The
past several weeks have been filled with
celebrations, prayer services, and gatherings
honoring our Marianist Founders and the start of
Marianist Lay Communities. For me, the most exciting
of these events was "Founders' Week" at Daniel J.
Gross Catholic High School in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Their Marianist LIFE Community invited Bro. Jack
and I to participate and speak at several of their
activities, celebrate Mass with the school community,
participate in a "U2 Prayer Service" to help eradicate
poverty and world hunger, as well as attend a cultural
immersion service trip to a Native American
reservation. The week was packed with
many "Marianist Moments" of hospitality, education,
peace, justice, community, and spreading the
charism. Our gratitude goes out to you, Gross
Catholic, and every parish and school that continues
to fulfill our founders' vision of building a community of
communities to change the world via Marianist LIFE.
A senior LIFE Team leader at Gross Catholic, Seth
Richardson, presented the entire school with an
inspiring reflection on his experience as a student at a
Marianist institution. To read Seth's reflection,

MLC Spotlight - Our Lady of Good Counsel in Maryland
|
|

|
An excerpt from moderator Don Dalphonse's article
on the LIFE program at Good Counsel:
"One of the main reasons for the success of our LIFE
program has been due to leadership and preparation.
Our senior LIFE leaders have accompanied Don and
Randy over the past three years to the summer LIFE
program in Ohio (Marianist LIFE Central), and this has
been one of the main reasons for the growth of our
program. Six rising seniors have had the opportunity
to build faith, received inspiration, acquire skills and
develop enthusiasm from this summer experience.
Upon returning to Good Counsel, our students remain
inspired and this inspiration has activated a renewed
sense of "living their faith" through the LIFE program."

Resources for Marianist LIFE Communities
|
|

|
In order to better share our gifts and talents to
enhance the Marianist LIFE Community experience,
the national office has set up an online Resource
Website for all students and moderators to access.
There are more than 60 online
resources currently available; however, we
still need your help! In order to assist more students
and moderators, please email us prayer services,
meeting ideas, MLC gathering agendas, fundraising
ideas, pictures, etc. to make it the best possible
interactive website for all involved.
Reminder: The school or parish who submits the
most materials to the national office (in the current
academic year) by May 1, 2008
will receive $475.00 towards their LIFE program.
The administrator, moderator, campus minister, or
youth minister can use it towards a student
scholarship to a summer program or put it towards
the overall budget.
The unique portion of the Marianist LIFE website
is for our use only. The private username for the site
is "marianistlife" and the password is "chaminade".
We hope these resources, and those posted in
the future, will help you and your MLCs.
The resource can be found on our homepage on the
bottom right corner. Please Note:
sometimes the username and password do not work
on the first try. Simply re-enter the username and
password one or two times and you should be
directed to the resource page.

2008 Theme Song & T-Shirt Design Challenge
|
|

|
We are initiating the "2008 Theme Song &
T-Shirt Design Challenge," encouraging and
inviting members of the Marianist LIFE community to
help choose this summer's theme song and help
design our t-shirt. The process is open to all
interested (past and present) students, moderators,
Marianist Young Adults, administrators, and
Coordinating Team members.
If you would like to be involved in the process,
please note the following:
- A theme song should convey a positive, Christian
message
- A theme song should be sing-able, sway-able,
and capable of an effective live performance (as well
as recorded)
- A theme song cannot be repeated from past
years (click here for past theme
songs)
- No more than three song choices per email
address
- Please email your choice(s) to marianistlife@sm-usa.org by
Friday, April 4th.
- Please include the song title, artist, and if
possible, the link to the song lyrics online
If you have an idea for a 2008 t-shirt design, please
submit your entry (in writing and graphic attachment)
to marianistlife@sm-usa.org by
Friday, April 4th.
The t-shirt must include the Marianist LIFE
logo, the year 2008, and be age-appropriate for both
student and adult participants.
Please spread the word in and among
the Marianist
LIFE community. We will contact you in the near
future to explain the next step of the selection
process and how you can be further involved.

Marianist LIFE Reunion Retreats
|
|

|
Due to valuable feedback we have received, the
Marianist LIFE Reunion Retreats to be held in July
2008 will be open to ALL students who have attended
a summer LIFE program and who are 21 years old or
younger. The purpose of these gatherings is
two-fold: 1) to gather and re-connect with others who
experienced a summer LIFE program, and 2) to
broaden the "Living In Faith Experience" and learn
more about what the larger Marianist family has to
offer (young adults in particular). If you happen to be
older than 22 years of age and would like to
participate in this reunion retreat, or similar
experiences in the Marianist family, please contact the
national office for Marianist LIFE at marianistlife@sm-usa.org.
The following are tentative dates for July
2008:
Dayton, OH - University of Dayton :: July 18-20
(includes a visit to Bergamo Center & Marianist LIFE
Central's Commissioning)
San Antonio, TX - St. Mary's University :: July 25-27
(includes a visit to TECABOCA & Marianist LIFE
South's Visitors' Night)
Pacific - currently being determined

Peace & Justice Opportunities
|
|

|
The Office of Peace & Justice for the Marianist
Province supports and communicates current social
justice activities, as well as initiates action to work in
solidarity with the poor and marginalized. An exciting
opportunity offered to young adults and adults is the
Marianist Volunteer Program (MVP). MVP offers
individuals the opportunity to serve those in need, live
in community, and reflect on the volunteer experience
with the Marianist family. Individuals can volunteer
with a variety of agencies in San Antonio, St. Louis and
East St. Louis, Rockaway Park, N.Y., Cincinnati,
Honolulu, and Karonga, Malawi (Africa). The MVP
provides opportunities for faith, spiritual, and personal
development, and empowers a diversity of volunteers
to be partners for peace and justice. Marianist
volunteers live out an option for the poor and
marginalized through a simple lifestyle and cross
cultural service, and experience the Marianist vision of
lay leadership and community. Are you interested?
Visit
www.marianist.com/mvp for more information.
Also, the Office of Peace & Justice offers different
immersion trips across the country and world. Some
include New Orleans, Texas and Mexico (Border
Awareness Experience), and Israel. This provides
Marianist LIFE Communities and/or their moderators
a life-changing, practical follow-up to the Marianist
LIFE social justice module. For more information visit
www.marianist.com/immersiontrips.
