In partnering with the poorest of the poor in Eastern Africa, the Marianists are committed to empowering the poor to break free of the appalling cycles of poverty into which they were born. The ability to read and write is replacing adult illiteracy, thousands of slum children are going to school, single mothers in distress are being helped to create a better future for their children, and AIDS orphans are given a chance in life. What is more, abandoned children are rescued from the filth and danger of the streets, young people are learning job skills, and destitute rural families are creating their own farm enterprises. Through this ministry, Jesus is being taught, fed, clothed, encouraged and surrounded by love, and the Good News is preached to the least of our brothers and sisters.
