SPOTLIGHT ON 2012 MARIANIST JUBILARIANS
FamilyOnline honors Marianists celebrating a milestone anniversary this year. Each issue will profile jubilarians and pay tribute to their dedication to the Marianist mission.
Bro. Tom Giardino, celebrating 50 years of profession: “It was in 1998 that I realized that the simple dream I had as a teenager—to gather my relatives into one family business—was the basis for God’s more significant dream for me. In fact what I had been doing—and continue to do—was to gather folks around the Marianist Family table and try to connect their dreams to those of our founders in service of Mary’s mission.” Read more from Bro. Tom.
Fr. James Heft, celebrating 50 years of profession: “Over these past 50 years, several figures have gradually become more central in my life: Jesus, Mary, Chaminade, and several Marianists, some of whom I’ve had the privilege to live with, whose example, love and support have blessed me these past 50 years. With every passing year, I feel as though the ‘stakes are higher,’ the ministry is more important, and the success of my efforts hardly remain in my own hands.” Read more from Fr. Jim.
Bro. Charles Johnson, celebrating 25 years of profession: “I have been blessed these past 25 years. I am grateful to my students, my Marianist brothers, my family—especially my parents. I am grateful to Mary, our Blessed Mother and to our God, who makes all things possible. Thank you!”
Bro. Mike Murphy, celebrating 50 years of profession: “It was after experiencing India that I could see myself walking with the forgotten, the marginalized, the invisible people of God. I now define my ministry as nova bella, new wars. I am responding to new social problems—it’s stressful and demands that I be available to people—but like Mary, I am choosing to say, ‘Yes.'” Read more from Bro. Mike.
