FOUR NOVICES PREPARE FOR FIRST VOW CEREMONY IN DAYTON

Second-year novices Hugo Bastida, Norman Capinpin, Michael Chiuri and Brandon Paluch are making final preparations for their first vows on June 23. Provincial Marty Solma will serve as the main presider and receive the vows during Mass at 4 p.m. at Queen of Apostles Chapel at Mount Saint John, Dayton. Fr. Pat Tonry will give the homily. A reception and dinner will follow at the Kennedy Union on the campus of the University of Dayton.

Earlier this spring, Hugo, Norman, Michael and Brandon wrote letters requesting vows. The Provincial Council considered each letter and approved the requests.

To prepare for the vow ceremony, the novices recently joined the temporary professed brothers (who have taken first vows but not perpetual vows) for a workshop and retreat called “Marianist Roots – Sinking Deeper” at Founder’s Hollow, N.Y., a Marianist retreat center in the Province of Meribah. Bro. Tim Driscoll (Province of Meribah) led the workshop. The novices then participated in a seven-day retreat led by Fr. Marty Solma and assisted by Bro. Tim and Fr. Oscar Vasquez. Also assisting were Fr. Bill Meyer and Sr. Laura Leming.
