MARIANISTS BID FAREWELL TO ST. JOHN’S AFTER 75 YEARS OF SERVICE

On May 20, the Marianist Province of the United States celebrated 75 years of service to St. John’s Residence for Boys and thanked members of the Rockaway Park, N.Y., Marianist community as it withdraws from ministry there. Held at St. Camillus Church, a Mass of thanksgiving was celebrated by Provincial Martin SolmaFr. Paul Landolfi gave the homilyMonsignor Alfred LoPinto represented Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio. Following Mass, a dinner for 250 guests was held in Springmann Hall, a parish facility named for the late Bro. Frank Springmann, a former principal, teacher and director of sports at St. John’s School.

The ministry will continue to operate despite the departure of the Marianists. St. John’s is a state-run agency which is sponsored by the Diocese of Brooklyn and governed by an independent board of directors.
