UPDATE ON THE MARIANISTS’ PROTECTION OF CHILDREN
As part of an ongoing process to protect children, the Marianist Province of the United States has successfully completed an independent review and is now accredited through 2015. Specialists from Praesidium, Inc. thoroughly reviewed the Province’s policies, conducted site visits and interviewed Province members, including those in formation, vocation and formation directors, those on the Provincial Council and members of the Province independent review board. Bro. Joe Kamis, assistant provincial, coordinated the effort.
This accreditation is the second, three-year accreditation process the Province has undergone with Praesidium. The Conference of the Major Superiors of Men (a group of leaders of male religious orders in the United States) chose Praesidium to verify that its standards for accreditation were being met. The Province is in accord with the policies for child protection established by t
he U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in 2002 (Dallas Charter).
“Although we have received accreditation, the protection of children and the healing of victims are an ongoing responsibility, and our efforts will be ongoing,” said Provincial Marty Solma.
