MARIANIST FAMILY WELL REPRESENTED AT L.A. RELIGIOUS ED. CONGRESS
Members of the Marianist Family attended the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress from March 23 – 25 in Anaheim, Calif., and Province staff and Marianist religious hosted three booths: vocations; the Marianist Mission; and the Association of Marianist Universities. Some 40,000 Catholics attend the annual Congress for liturgical celebrations, networking, workshops and talks given by leading Catholic educators, writers and activists.
Bros. Dennis Schmitz, Tom Wendorf, Jim Wisecaver, Frs. Ted Cassidy, Ken Templin and John Thompson, and Srs. Nicole Trahan and Gretchen Trautman staffed the vocations booth and engaged with visitors. “We come here to talk with young men and women who are interested in religious life,” said Bro. Tom Wendorf, national vocations director. “We collect contact information and keep in touch with many.”
The Marianist Mission and the Association of Marianist Universities each hosted a booth at the Congress for the first time and raised awareness about their ministries. The Mission’s booth was staffed by Allison Hewitt, Province executive director of development, and Linda Hayes, director of the Marianist Mission. Bro. Tom Giardino, executive director of the AMU, Kay Stone and Chelssi Matsuda (Chaminade University of Honolulu), Bro. Brian Halderman and Chris Cantu (St. Mary’s University) and Robert Durkle (University of Dayton) handed out materials regarding their respective institutions.
