MARIANIST FAMILY MEMBERS VISIT ST. DAMIEN’S HOME ON MOLOKA’I

Several Marianist Family members participated in a recent pilgrimage to Kalaupapa on the Hawaiian island of Moloka’i, where St. Damien (right) lived and ministered to exiled lepers. Bishop Larry Silva (Diocese of Honolulu) led the pilgrimage. “It was a wonderful pilgrimage and a great opportunity to visit a sacred place,” said Novice Brandon Paluch.

CASA MARIA HOSTS FIVE GUESTS FOR VOCATION LIVE-IN EXPERIENCE

The Casa Maria Marianist community in San Antonio hosted a vocation live-in during November for five young men who are discerning religious life. Four St. Mary’s University undergraduates and one graduate student participated. The live-in experience introduced participants to the rhythm of Marianist community life, including Liturgy of the Hours, Eucharist, shared meals and recreation. Fr. Bill Behringer and Bro. Brian Halderman shared their vocation stories and fielded questions about the discernment process, and Bro. Mike Sullivan led a conversation on the Marianist charism. “It was heartening to hear how articulate these young discerners were about the Marianist charism,” said Bro. Brian. “It was a hope-filled week for both the discerners and the community.”

ALLIANCE FOR MARIANIST LAY FORMATION GATHERS IN DAYTON

DAYTON’S QUEEN OF APOSTLES PARISH HOLDS “BE THE CHURCH” EVENT

Queen of Apostles parish members participate in “Be the Church” weekend

From Oct. 29 – 30, almost 100 members of Dayton’s Queen of Apostles parish participated in a “Be the Church” event. Over the course of the weekend, participants logged more than 600 hours serving the Dayton community at sites across the area, including Mercy Siena, a homeless shelter, neighborhood garden, food bank, and individual homes of elderly community members. CASA MARIA COMMUNITY SPENDS SEMESTER RETREAT AT TECABOCA

Members of the Casa Maria Marianist community in San Antonio took a semester retreat at TECABOCA in Mountain Home, Texas, from Nov. 25 -27. The brothers discussed a vocation ministry reflection by Bro. Tom Wendorf and materials featured in a recent formation event. Participants celebrated a closing liturgy on the first Sunday of Advent, also the first liturgy of the New Roman Missal.

  On Nov. 11, Bro. Bob Donovan (Elm Street, Cincinnati) received the 2011 Transformation Award from the Center for Respite Care in Cincinnati.   • Fr. Paul Ryan (Marianist Residence, San Antonio, Tex.), 95, who died Dec. 2, 2011 in San Antonio. May he rest in peace. The Marianist Residence community prayed a rosary for Fr. Paul on Dec. 6. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Dec. 7 at the Marianist Residence. Fr. John Leies was the presider and homilist. Burial followed the Mass at the Marianist cemetery on the campus of St. Mary’s University. Read Fr. Paul’s obituary.

NOLAN CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL, FORT WORTH, TEXAS. Beginning this year, all Nolan athletes will take a day off of athletics and reflect on the school’s Catholic, Marianist charism. The new program was created by Steven Prud’homme, athletic director. “This forum fosters team-bonding and provides opportunities for discussion about topics such as competing with honor,” said Prud’homme. “We also wanted to connect with surrounding communities, charitable organizations and other Catholic schools.” 

 

ST. MARY’S HIGH SCHOOL, ST. LOUIS. On Nov. 16, St. Mary’s students honored Principal Kevin Hacker and Associate Principal Jane Goff with a surprise presentation on Principal’s Day. Kevin and Jane were presented with plaques designed by the students, and President Fr. Mitch Doyen closed the celebration with a blessing.
