PROVINCIAL COUNCIL APPOINTS LEADERSHIP FOR DISTRICT OF INDIA

The Provincial Council has appointed Bro. Augustus Surin as district superior of the District of India for an initial term of three years, effective Jan. 1, 2012. Bro. Augustus, 40, professed first vows in April 2001 and perpetual vows in December 2006. He graduated from Birsa College in Khunti and Ranchi University and studied rural development at Xavier Institute of Social Service in Ranchi from 2004 to 2006. Since 2006, Bro. Augustus has been the program director of the Chaminade Rural Development Project in Binda (CRDP) and secretary of the Roro Binda Upper Primary School in Roro.

The Provincial Council also has appointed Fr. Jack McGrath to a three-year term as assistant district superior. Bro. Augustus and Fr. Jack will build on the foundations already laid and the development that has taken place during the last six years of leadership under Fr. Pragasam and Bro. Prakash, well supported and mentored by Fr. Joe Lackner.

Fr. Kip Stander has agreed to serve the District of India for the next three years and will travel to India in December to begin his new involvement in this growing area of Marianist life.

The installation of new leadership will take place at Deepahalli on Jan. 1, feast of Mary, Mother of God.
