WOMEN GATHER FOR SUMMIT AT MARIANIST CENTER IN PHILADELPHIA
On Sept. 24, Marianist Sisters and lay women gathered for the East Coast Marianist Women’s Summit at The Marianist Center in Philadelphia. Participants engaged in activities and discussions based on lessons from the female founders. Presentations included “Mary in our lives and in the lives of our founders”; “The influences of the French Revolution on the lives of Adèle de Batz de Trenquelléon, Marie Thérèse Charlotte de Lamourous and Blessed William Joseph Chaminade”; and “Mary at the Wedding Feast of Cana.” The summit was modeled after a similar event held in San Antonio last March.
As a follow-up to the March summit, 31 lay women and nine Marianist Sisters gathered for a women’s retreat in San Antonio on Oct. 8. The retreat was entitled “Ruth and Naomi: Your story and mine – a journey with biblical women.” Lay Marianist Carol Weiss served as a presenter. “The day was filled with enriching input, reflection, sharing, and prayer rituals,” said Sr. Gretchen Trautman. “Just as Ruth and Naomi were two faith-filled women of very different ages, participants were intentionally intergenerational,” added Sr. Grace Walle.
