On Dec. 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Bros. Ashok Dungdung, John Paul L. and Libin Tete from the District of India professed final vows at Our Lady of the Seat of Wisdom Chapel in Deepahalli. Fr. Ignatius Loyola Arulappen presided at the Mass. From Nov. 23 – 27, Bro. Francisco González and Fr. Marty Solma visited the District of Mexico. They met with individual members of the District and attended a meeting about the District’s progress and mission. They also met with Bishop Faustino, who will ordain Bro. Raymundo Domínguez González on Jan. 26, and attended the celebration of the feast of Christ the King, presided by Fr. Quentin Hakenewerth, at a local parish chapel.

The Province Sponsorship Task Force held its final gathering in Dallas Dec. 6 – 9 after meeting since spring 2011. The group has prepared a recommendation report to be presented this week to the Provincial Council. After the Council makes its comments on the report, the recommendation will be discussed at the Provincial Chapter in March 2013. The Offices of Education and Religious Life will keep administrators of sponsored ministries updated during the next several months.

The first workshop of the three-year Spiritual Renewal effort by the Province began with a workshop in San Antonio Nov. 30 – Dec. 1. Speaker Susan Komis from Contemplative Outreach Ltd. spoke on the “Stages of Prayer as Related to Faith Development” and “The Human Condition.” The Spiritual Renewal Committee is chaired by Bro. Stephen Glodek, with workshops coordinated by Bro. Stephen and Fr. Bill Meyer and Dan Donnelly of the Office of Religious Life. A second workshop was held in St. Louis last weekend; other workshops are scheduled for Cupertino, Calif.; Philadelphia; Dayton, Ohio; and Honolulu.

The “Aging with Grace” committee, which met Dec. 3 – 5 in St. Louis, evaluated two recent workshops presented by Dr. Richard Johnson for Province members: “Well, Wise and Whole” and “The Spirituality of Aging.” The committee also met with Provincial Marty Solma, who helped the committee’s planning. Future efforts will include regional gatherings for Province members focused on the theme of aging with grace.

|Jan. 22 is the anniversary of the death of Blessed William Joseph Chaminade. “We feel called to give new vitality to the witness of Blessed William Joseph’s life and teachings. We recall his special sensitivity to the world in which he lived and his missionary passion toward the world he loved. Steve Glodek facilitated “Brothers Think Tank,” a historic meeting of representatives from the Conference of Major Superiors of Men, the Religious Formation Conference, the Religious Brothers’ Conference and the National Religious Vocation Conference. Held Nov. 29 – 30 at Maryknoll in Ossining, N.Y., the meeting was moderated by Bro. Robert Croteau, SC. Bro. Steve is former president of the Conference of Major Superiors.|
|Bro. Bill Farrell shares an update from Guatemala, where he serves as a teacher in a poor neighborhood. The school’s 70 students range in age from 14 to 54. “Our school is a night school for the poor who never have had a chance to go to school. Our biggest problems this year are malnutrition and gang activities,” writes Bro. Bill. “I believe our efforts are needed as a sign of hope. The Marianists in Guatemala are few, but we are a band of brothers who can help build a new world.”|

|Bro. Bob Jones shares that the Chaminade International Seminary Community celebrates a monthly “cultural Mass,” highlighting one of the units of the Society of Mary. On Nov. 29, the Mass celebrated India and was followed by a meal of traditional Indian foods and a presentation about the country and the Marianist Family’s presence there.|
|Bro. John Samaha shares two articles that he wrote: “Devotions extend and continue the liturgy” from The Southeast Asia Catholic and “Mary and the Byzentine Liturgy” from Missio Immaculatae International.|
|Fr. Rudy Vela will receive the The Silver Insignia award on Dec. 18 for his support and dedication to the Franklin Institute on the occasion of the institute’s 25th anniversary. Fr. Rudy is the former director of the Spain Semester Study Abroad Program at St. Mary’s University and serves as the school’s vice president for mission and identity. Also receiving the award is Minita Santizo, director of St. Mary’s international studies programs and a Marianist Educational Associate. Congratulations, Fr. Rudy and Minita!|
|Ray and Joanne McCracken were featured in a National Catholic Reporter blog post written by Isabella Moyer, president of the International Organization of Marianist Lay Communities. The post describes the couple’s involvement in Sacred Heart Parish in Camden, N.J. “Ask Joanne and Ray to describe why they are part of the Sacred Heart community, and they will regale you with a passionate account of a church whose soul is nourished with heavenly hope. This hope becomes incarnate, moving hands and feet to fight the hell of violence and poverty,” writes Isabella.|

St. Mary’s University has received a $1 million gift from alumnus Bill Greehey (B.B.A. ’60) for the newly revamped MBA program, a cohort-based graduate program that centers on values-driven leadership and learning. |ARCHBISHOP RIORDAN HIGH SCHOOL, SAN FRANCISCO. Joseph Conti has been named interim president of Archbishop Riordan High School in San Francisco. He was appointed to the school’s board of trustees in 2004, and he was elected chairman of the board in 2010. Joseph replaces former President Patrick Daly, who resigned last month. |CHAMINADE COLLEGE PREPARATORY, ST. LOUIS. On Dec. 1, 112 Chaminade volunteers – 50 mothers and 62 students – participated in the school’s fifth annual Mother/Son Service Day. The volunteers served at six local organizations in the St. Louis area, including Fr. Dempsey’s Charities, Cardinal Ritter Senior Services, St. Louis Arc, Cedars of Town and Country, TASK (Team Activities for Special Kids) and Friends of Kids with Cancer.|
|CHAMINADE JULIENNE CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL, DAYTON. Students at CJ raised $2,973 and collected 2,515 non-perishable donation items during the school’s Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week Nov. 12 – 19. Proceeds benefit local, national and international service organizations including The Dayton Food Bank/Holiday Aide, St. Vincent Hotel, Catholic Charities and Oxfam.|
|DANIEL J. GROSS CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL, BELLEVUE, NEB. Congratulations to the Gross Catholic Cougars football team, which clinched the school’s first football title – the Class B State Championship – in a 14-7 victory over Norris High School on Nov. 20. Read more.|
|During November, Gross Catholic’s fifth-annual Hope Totes, organized by the school’s Marianist LIFE team, generated more than 1,300 items for mothers in need. The items were donated to the Bethlehem House, a shelter in Omaha, Neb., that provides women with education, guidance and shelter throughout their pregnancies.|
|NOLAN CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL, FORT WORTH, TEXAS. Bishop Kevin Vann celebrated a farewell Mass at Nolan before departing Texas for his new assignment as bishop of the Diocese of Orange, Calif. The NCHS community said a special blessing for him at Mass and presented him with a rosary crafted by students from the school’s Rosary Club.|

|ST. ANTHONY JUNIOR-SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, WAILUKU, HAWAI’I. St. Anthony’s Action Team and student government officers hosted a “Hawaiian Christmas Senior Ball” for the residents of Hale Makua Wailuku. The students provided Christmas leis and gifts for the residents, sang carols and decorated the home. The ball has become an annual tradition.|
|ST. JOHN VIANNEY HIGH SCHOOL, ST. LOUIS. During November, students at St. John Vianney High School saved loose change in baby bottles for donation to Thrive St. Louis, an ultrasound-equipped van. The collection generated nearly $3,100 and was conducted in partnership with a local Knights of Columbus chapter.|
