SOBREMESA MLC HOLDS COMMITMENT CEREMONY

On Aug. 25, members of the new Sobremesa Marianist Lay Community held a formal commitment ceremony on the campus of St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. The community was formed in August 2011 with Luis Guerra and Clare Strockbine; Jen Brophy joined the group in February 2012. ”Sobremesa is a Spanish word with no known direct English translation,” said Luis. “In Latin America, it refers to the time spent around the table after a meal when loved ones share in conversation, with no hurry and no worry about what comes next. It is social, relaxing yet energizing; it is communal. The sobremesa is sacred time.” Bro. Mike O’Grady serves as the community’s spiritual guide. Fr. Rudy Vela coordinated the commitment ceremony. Read more from Luis. Follow the community’s blog.
